Springbok, located on the N7 national road, connects the Cape with Namibia and is the largest town in the Namaqualand area. It serves as a gateway to the breathtaking Namaqua flower displays.
We stayed at Modderfontein Farm, 10 km from Springbok on the Kleinzee Road. The farm offers spectacular views of the flowers, with clean, adequate ablution facilities providing hot and cold water.
In the morning, we ventured into the Goegap Nature Reserve, where Carolusberg, the highest point in the area, offers stunning vistas. The spring flowers were in full bloom, making it a must-see for visitors during the season. This reserve forms part of the wildflower route and is a seasonal attraction. It supports 600 species of indigenous flowers, 45 mammal species, and 94 bird species.
We left Springbok to visit Okiep and enjoyed a beer at the Okiep Country Hotel, situated just outside the historic copper mine area. Okiep was once the heart of copper mining in South Africa and boasts stunning views of the spring flowers.
From the Okiep Country Hotel, we travelled to Nababeep, another mining town, where the flower displays were equally impressive.
ECR Panel Beaters provided excellent service, assisting us with our trailer, which had developed a slight lean.
