Papkuilsfontein Guest Farm and Campsite is a pleasant and enjoyable destination. Situated around 20 kilometers from Nieuwoudtville, this working farm offers stone cottages for booking, along with communal campsites that provide nice views of the Hantamberg Mountains to the east and the canyon cliffs to the west.
For those preferring a quieter stay, eco-campsites are also an option. These were already booked so we then settled for the communal campsites and shared ablution facilities with four other sites. The setup includes one toilet and one shower, which can be a minor inconvenience during busy periods.
Our first night featured a delicious home-cooked meal, starting with homemade soup, followed by lamb shank with mashed potatoes and vegetables, and finishing with a home-baked pudding, all accompanied by a local red wine. The next day after all our exploring of Nieuwoudtville and surroundings took a trip to see the canyon and waterfall, and the farm’s natural beauty was quite appealing. If we find ourselves in the area again, we’d be happy to return.
