We left the freezing cold Kandirri Lodge and Campsite and headed to the R48 to De Aar where while searching online for the bar in De Aar the Navigator didn’t pay attention and we had a slight detour of 30 kms. Arriving in De Aar we found no bar and set off to Calvinia via Williston.
We seemed to climb the whole way and petrol consumption was pretty horrific. Arriving in Calvinia late afternoon we found our campsite at Klipverf and settled in for the night around a fire which was needed for a bit of warmth.
Next day we explored Calvinia had a good breakfast at the Ou Lady Gastehuis then visited the church market and of course buying the obligatory famous Karoo lamb chops from Calvinia Vleis Mark. We retired back to the campsite and cooked the lamb chops for dinner and they did not disappoint.
Coffee on a doily! A different era, so nostalgic and always makes me think of my mom.
