We kicked off our Grand Tour from Bryanston on Saturday, August 23, 2025, with the Springboks’ rugby test against Australia setting the day’s mood.

The drive to Kandirri Game Lodge, just outside Kimberley, was smooth sailing, and I arrived with enough time to set up camp, crack open a couple of cold ones, and head to the lodge’s bar to catch the game. The Boks pulled off the win, but I wasn’t sold on their performance—felt a bit flat for my liking.

Woke up to a freezing campsite to pack up in zero degrees but braved on.The campsite at Kandirri is pretty basic but does the job. The ablutions were a pleasant surprise, clean with hot and cold water. Not a fan of the captive lions circling the site, though—it felt more like a zoo than a wilderness vibe. Still, it was a decent spot to start my adventure. Where to next 6 more weeks of adventure.

The Fat Butcher - Ventersberg. The biltong and chilli bites are so worth stopping for!!!

Camping 101: Always be stocked up with a good selection! Cheers!

Think that Springbok on the wall could have given us a better performance than some of our Bokke in today's game!!

Glamping at its finest!! Definately needed coffee to warm us up! Flippen freezing waking up to zero degrees! Inside!!!
