An Adventure of Quirks and Wonders: From the Zambezi to the Heart of Victoria Falls
Embarking on a journey that promised the breathtaking beauty of the Zambezi River and the awe-inspiring Victoria Falls, our intrepid travellers found themselves in a whirlwind of experiences that ranged from the majestic to the absurd, all woven together by the colourful tapestry of African travel.
Leaving behind the Senyati region with a determination to navigate the right path this time, our road warriors were set for an encounter with the magnificent Cable-Stayed Bridge that confidently spanned the mighty Zambezi River. Positioned 65 kilometre’s upstream from the famed Victoria Falls, this architectural marvel was a testament to human ingenuity. But alas, the bridge wasn't the only thing to leave them in awe. The customs process at the Kazangula border post left them with tales of both pleasant encounters and surly officials.
After a dance with bureaucracy that tested the bounds of patience, our road-worn travellers finally entered Zambia, ready to take on Livingstone and its wondrous falls. Armed with pre-paid third-party insurance, police clearance, and more relevant documents than a paper jungle, they tackled the customs conundrum. Oh, Zambia, a land of such beauty, yet with customs processes that make a snail's pace seem like a sprint.
Nonetheless, we persevered, determined to experience the Zambezi's grandeur. At the Victoria Falls, a symphony of water and nature's glory greeted us, as the falls were in full flood, roaring with a power that could humble even the mightiest of beasts. Rain suits donned, our travellers braved the spray, only to find themselves drenched but exhilarated, pondering the fate of all those paperwork forms they diligently filled out.
With the falls behind them, it was time for sustenance, and what better way to satisfy the appetite for both food and local insight than at a little Restaurant bar just outside the gate? Barbed wire served as a not-so-subtle reminder of the local monkey population’s interest in guests' meals. One can only wonder if the monkeys have a culinary critique club hidden among the trees.
As the sun dipped below the horizon, casting its warm hues across the landscape, our adventurers found themselves back at the Waterfront. With libations in hand, they soaked in the spectacle of nature's canvas, declaring that in that moment, life couldn't get any better.
